| Artist
from Tulsa's Sister City Beihai ranks
in Top 10 in National Art Contest for Second Time
"Connecting Global Villages"
created by Qin Lue of Beihai
Qin Lue, of Tulsa's Sister City
Beihai, once again ranks in the top 10 of the National Young Artist Competition.
Her work titled "Connecting Global Villages" was chosen as a finalist
at the local Tulsa Sister City competition in April 2005. The artwork was then
sent to Washington to compete in the National competition. Top ten winners were
announced in July 2005.
This years theme was "Connecting Global Villages." Each SCI
member community hosted a local art competition, in which one winner from each
Sister City advanced to the national competition. The top 10 national winners
receive a $300 award and certificate. Lue says of her inspiration for
the winning entry, "The Globe we live in is just like a beautiful village,
where every different country is a very different family in this village and every
family should get along well with each other. I hope that with friendship as the
tie to connect every country in this globe, we will get on well with each other
from generation to generation." Lue also was a top 10 finalist in
2004. Her winning entry will join the other top 10 finalist's artworks
as they become part of a traveling exhibit that will be displayed during the year
in member communities. Qin Lue, a student at Beihai No. 2 Middle School,
started taking art classes at age 8. Her parents, who are both business professionals,
agree they know almost nothing about art, but give their full support to their
daughter who has repeatedly shown successful in her works. Her art teacher describes
her as talented and hardworking. Lue hopes to become a student of the
Central Academy of Fine Arts, a leading art institution in China after high school
graduation next year, and she would like to major in cartoon design or fashion
design for advanced studies at the university.
