San Luis Potosi, Mexico

(Since October 1980)

Located 225 miles northwest of Mexico City, San Luis Potosi is famous for its beautiful old churches, colonial architecture and Mexican tradition.

Since Tulsa's affiliation with San Luis Potosi, there have been many exchanges, such as the Tulsa fire truck in exchange for the Casa del Agua fountain now located in Centennial Park.

Most recent exchanges:
In January 2005, SLP Partnership Chair Ana Ramon Garcia participated in the inaugural flight by American Airlines to launch their direct flights from Dallas to SLP. During her visit, she met with Governor Leal and Mayor Pedroza.

In June 2004, Tulsa Fire Chief Allen La Croix represented the City of Tulsa and the Tulsa Fire Department when he visited SLP. A strong relationship has developed between the two fire departments over the years.

Annual youth exchanges and adult exchanges are an established part of this partnership. Tulsa's Eisenhower International School has the United States' only elementary international exchange program in its relationship with San Luis Potosi's Instituto Cervantes.
