Tulsa was honored as Best Overall Program for a city population of 300,000-500,000 at Sister Cities International's 50th Anniversary Conference in Washington, D.C. in July 2006. The commemorative award recognizes sister city programs which demonstrate the long-term sustainability of their sister city relationships/program.

“This outstanding award is recognition of the excellent work of an amazing staff and a truly effective, hard working group of volunteers who are committed to the importance of international understanding," said Karen Schafer, president and CEO of Tulsa Global Alliance.
