Crayon Art Exhibition New

Sample Crayon Art

Let your students explore the world through a creative and educational art project to promote global awareness. Enable your students to become more familiar with their world through this fun, hands-on learning activity - a perfect addition to your classroom international lesson plan.

The Crayon Art Exhibit is open to grades K-5. Crayons, varying in size from 2 feet to 5 feet, will be displayed in the Tulsa community prior to the festival and will also be included in the festival entrance decorations.

How the Crayon Art Exhibit works: (Print flyer.)

  • Participating classes will be given a crayon. Smaller crayons will be given to younger grades, larger crayons given to older grades.
  • Students decorate the crayon, using whatever art medium they choose. The only restriction is that the artwork must represent an international theme or design.
  • Students are assigned the task of creating a top to their crayon. Be creative! It can be realistic or abstract.
Somewhere on the artwork we ask that you include the grade, school and teacher's name (optional), just as an artist signs his work. We ask that it's not too big, so as not to overshadow the international concept. We suggest somewhere along the bottom.
  • Once the crayon is finished then we would like to help promote your Partner in Education by displaying the crayon in their business office. This will also give publicity to the school, class and Kids' World International Festival, as well.

It's easy to get started. Print off an entry form, fill out and return to Tulsa Global Alliance. Once we receive your entry form, we'll contact you to make arrangements to pick up or deliver your crayon. If you have any questions, email us.

Pen-Pal Program

"Color Your World" and share it with others all around the world! Teachers, this is your chance to allow your students to explore and visualize the world of other students from different countries. Tulsa Global Alliance is setting up a pen pal correspondence program with Tulsa area elementary schools (3rd, 4th, & 5th grade classes) and schools around the globe, including Tulsa's Sister Cities schools (San Luis Potosi, Mexico; Kaohsiung, Taiwan; Beihai, China; Tiberias, Israel; Utsunomiya, Japan; Zelenograd, Russia; Celle, Germany; Amiens, France). Note: this is an exchange program only for letters, photos, drawings or other art materials.

If you are a 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade teacher interested in this Pen Pal Correspondence Program, please email us so we can get you started.

How the Pen Pal Correspondence Works:

1. 3rd, 4th & 5th grade teachers, email us if you are interested in participating in TGA's pen pal program. You may choose any country of your interest and we will try our best to pair your class with that country, but there are no guarantees. You may also choose a Sister City (from the list below) or TGA can match your class with one of the Sister Cities available on hand.

2. TGA will match up Tulsa County elementary 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes to Sister City classes.

3. Once paired up, teachers will be given the name of the school and teacher, a CultureGram, a Culture Box brochure, and a Fact Sheet about their Sister City.

4. For the Sister City teachers, TGA will send the name of the school and teacher of Tulsa class and a Fact Sheet about Tulsa and Oklahoma.

Note for Tulsa County teachers: if you would like a person to come to your classroom to present a Culture Box and give a lesson to your students about the Sister City, TGA will be happy to arrange this. Please call TGA at (918) 591-4750 to schedule a date and time.

After the lesson please follow the directions below.

Directions:
1. Have your students color a picture of their world.
2. Each student should write a letter explaining a little about themselves and their world.
3. Students may write letters, poems, stories, and take photos.
4. Deliver the pictures and letters to Tulsa Global Alliance who will mail the pictures and letters to the correspondence.

TGA's role is to provide the first initial contact between the classes with the pictures and letters. After the pictures and letters have been exchanged, you are more than welcome to keep the pen pal program going on your own to stay in contact with each other. If you would like to take the pen pal program to a higher level, the Tulsa Community College has available the latest computer technology for your students and you to communicate with your Sister City class through a software program called Skype. Skype is a software program that allows users to make telephone calls from their computer to other Skype users free of charge, or to landlines and cell phones for a fee. Also Skype includes instant messaging, file transfer, short message service, and video conferencing. Please contact TGA for arrangement about Skype.

Tulsa Global Alliance presents
If I Were Going, I Would Go To...

November 3 & 10, 2007

Join representatives from Tulsa Global Alliance’s Sister Cities and the country of Serbia at area libraries for a variety of activities to commemorate Worldwide International Education Week, Nov. 12-16. This event is free and open to the public.

Imagine a mini Kids' World, only instead of traveling the globe, kids will be able to focus on one country at a time. Children will learn about other countries through Culture Boxes, speakers, educational hands-on activities, books, storytellers, puppet theater and arts and craft demonstrations. Tulsa Global Alliance will give away door prizes, including free tickets to the 2008 Kids' World International Festival, taking place November 13-16 in the QuikTrip Center at the Tulsa Fairgrounds.

International Education Week (Nov. 12-16) is a joint initiative of the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to recognize the global exchange environment between the United States and other countries. Tulsa is planning many activities to celebrate International Education Week. Click here to view the International Education Week Schedule of Events.
